1. Determine the ultimate bearing capacity
of the footing 1.5 m wide, with its base at a depth of 1 m, if ground water
table is situated
a) at a depth of 0.5 m below the
ground surface.
b) at a depth of 0.5 below the base
of footing
Take γd =17 KN/m3,
ϕ’ = 380, c’ = 0, γsat = 20KN/m3.
Use Terzaghi’s theory.
2. An infinite slope is made of clay with
the following properties γt =18 KN/m3; γ’ = 9 KN/m3;
c’ =25 KN/m3, ϕ’ = 280. If slope has an inclination of 350
and height equal to 12m, Determine the stability of the slope, when
a) The slope is dry
b) There is seepage parallel to the
slope.
