Unit I: Introduction
Definition and scope, Hydrology in relation to water resources development, Hydrologic
Cycle, The necessity for hydrologic data, the global water budget, Practical applications.
Unit II: Hydrometeorology
Introduction, constituents of atmosphere, the weather and the atmosphere, the general
circulation, air masses and fronts, climate and weather seasons in India.
Unit III: Precipitation
Forms of precipitation, measurement of precipitation, Recording and Non-recording type
rain gauges, errors in measurement of rainfall. Consistency of rainfall records, Location of
rain gauge stations, analysis and interpretation of rainfall data, Average rainfall over a
catchment, Arithmetic, Theissen polygon and isohyetal methods, Probable maximum
precipitation (PMP), Rainfall intensity - duration curves.

M 20 and HYSD bars
Q.1 A flat slab system consists of 5m X 6m panels and it carries a live load of 4KN/sqm and finishing load 1KN/sqm. Size of column is 450mm diameter and floor to floor height is 4.5m. Calculate design moments in interior and exterior panels and also in column and middle strips in both directions
Q 2Design the exterior panel of flat slab of size 6m X 6m with Suitable drop to support a live load of 5KN/sqm The floor system is supported by columns of size 400 X 400 mm              floor to floor distance is 3.6m
Q.3 Design a square footing for a rectangular column 300mm X 500mm reinforced with 6-25dia bars and carrying a service load of 1250KN. Allowable soil pressure is 200KN/sqm at a depth of 1.25m below ground.

Q.4  Design a combined footing for two interior columns carrying axial loads 1000KN.  C1(400 X 400mm) and C2(450mm in diameter)They are reinforced with20mm bars and are spaced 4m centre to centre. SBC is 120KN/sqm. The property line is 300mm beyond the face of column C1.

Prescribed Format for Technical Seminar (4B G2)

The students are required to again submit their synopsis in the prescribed format by 10.10.13. (Thursday) positively. Failing which their submission will not be accepted

GUIDELINES FOR SEMINAR

PRESCRIBED FORMAT FOR THE CONTENT OF SEMINAR
General Instruction for formulation of the Seminar proposal.
Section 1: Seminar title
Seminar title should be within 150 characters (30 characters in each
line).
Section 2: Seminar abstract
The abstract should be a self-contained description of the research
activity including (a) research objectives (b) methodology to be
adopted and (c) expected outcome of the Seminar.
This summary should be about 300 words only.
Section 3: Subject Keywords
Please suggest not more than ten keywords that best describe the
Seminar.
Section 4: Objectives
Instead of an essay, it is suggested that the objectives be spelled out
point by point. For example, the objective of the rice bran problem
could be written as:
1. To examine alternative chemical modes for stabilisation of rice bran
oil.
2. To determine the exact source/cause of odour and to explore
methods for its removal.
Section 5: State of knowledge
Please indicate the recent development in the proposed field of work,
both in the country and in other parts of the world. This should be in 2
separate parts (namely Indian and International situations) and based
on literature survey. In the literature survey, inclusion of list of
important review articles, if available, is recommended.
Section 6: Importance of the proposed Seminar/ Justification
for subject area
The importance of the Seminar should be brought out in this section in
the light of the international and national state of knowledge on the
subject. This could be:
(a) Matters relating to scientific and technical advancement of
knowledge.
Section 7: Methodology
It is essential that from this statement the other faculty/experts in the
field should get a clear understanding of the research technique to be
presented in the Seminar as distinct from data/sample collection
activities and routine activities.
Section 8: Utilisation of research results
It is necessary to widely disseminate the research results and to
facilitate their use by other teaching and research communities and
industries. The intent of this section is to get an idea of how the
interaction between researchers and potential users of research results
could possibly be initiated, stimulated and maintained.
Section 9: Summary and Conclusions
Section 10: References
